General information

The University of Copenhagen, School of Global Health, offers a 5 ECTS summer course on Urbanisation and Health. The programme includes two weeks full time in Copenhagen and a preceding online preparatory module introducing mandatory course materials and a small, individual assignment that will serve as each participant’s input to the start-up on campus.

The course will focus on promotion of health and well-being in the urban environment across age groups and socioeconomic positions, and also  on urban adaptation to climate change, management of environmental health risks, and opportunities for green urban development on health.

The course will provide you with the knowledge, skills and competences to identify, analyse, discuss and pursue approaches to address priority urban health challenges in a local and global context.

When you have completed the course, you will be able to demonstrate an in-depth knowledge about predominant local and global urban trends and the related health challenges and responses in terms of climate, demography, infrastructure, environmental risks, green space, physical activity, and socio-economic factors.

You will acquire the skills to analyse and discuss the dynamics of selected features of urban health with reference to relevant literature, cases and evidence. In addition to making observations and collecting data about current condition and practices and perceived health challenges and opportunities in a given urban location.
