General information

The program of the course “Translation in Intercultural Space” consists of two different language classes: English-Russian and English-Estonian. The aim of the course is to introduce the main grounds of modern translation theory, including the ability to understandcultural differences / differences between native and translating languages.

It is well known that the translator is one of the oldest and at the same time the most demanded professions, however, the presented methodology is something new and original. Nowadays, a lot of people, including foreign language teachers, believe that the most effective way to learn a foreign language is to learn to translate not from the foreign language, but into it, because in this case a student perceives it as if it would be a mother tongue. That is the conception of our course.

The course is a combination of basic theoretical positions and practical sessions, which are held in the form of workshops and master classes for students in an attractive way. Particular attention is paid to differences in background knowledge, and wider – language images of the world of native speakers and translators.
