This course offers practical, hands-on experience with fieldwork in Greece. Processing finds is a feature of every excavation and field survey, and is essential to the analysis of fieldwork results. Students are usually involved in finds processing and may even do most of the work in some cases. But the method gets limited attention in academic curricula and those who do the work often receive little training. This course aims to fill that gap by offering a combination of theoretical and methodological classes, practice in a real field project and visits to sites and deposits. It includes discussions with, and instruction by, academic and heritage service archaeologists who supervise both the fieldwork and the processing and publishing of results. The course is offered by the faculty of Humanities of the University of Amsterdam Faculty of Humanities, in cooperation with the Netherlands Institute in Athens.
